SM By The Bay and the MOA Eye

The MOA Eye

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and the Metro would once again be engulfed by the sweet aroma of love. One of the most romantic places to have a long walk and talk with your beloved (sigh) is by the bay — SM by the Bay to be exact. The newest attraction — the MOA Eye — is something I personally would want to try although I don’t have someone to try it with (boohoo haha). Aside from the MOA eye, SM by the bay offers a spectacular view of the sea that rejuvenates and calms those urban-tired nerves of yours. SM by the Bay recently launched its Twitter page @SMBytheBay .The Twitter page gives updates on upcoming events and promos such as the upcoming Pyrolympics competition which would be held this February. More details would be released soon so follow the @SMBytheBay to get updates daily.

Ang Sayaw Ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa (Alvin Yapan, 2011)

If you’re watching this film to see two guys get it on, you will be disappointed. To treat Ang Sayaw Ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa (The Dance of Two Left Feet) solely as a gay film would do it disservice; it is much more than that. It is a film that takes on gender roles and how dance and the little gestures that build it become a means of communication and sexual expression, and an exploration of the interplay between the people engaged in it.

The relationship between Marlon (Paulo Avelino) and Dennis (Rocco Nacino) isn’t overtly pronounced. Their glances and gestures, particularly during their dances, are charged with tension so sharp it slices the atmosphere between them. Marlon uses movement to express his longing for Dennis; how the kineticism of each touch, slide and grasp depicts his all consuming desire.

But more importantly, Sayaw deals with artistic pursuit and the state of artists in a third world country. Set in the FEU campus, which is home to art deco architecture, the film perfectly melds poetry and dance into an everyday setting, questioning the place of art and its role in our lives. The film also centers on how arts is taught in a country where such subject is relegated to the sidelines.

Sayaw is a technically proficient film. The scenes are edited tightly and the dance sequences, choreographed by Eli Jacinto, are nicely shot, which is almost an achievement itself. It is, in a way, a cultural triumph, highlighting the achievements of Filipinos in the poetry, architecture and dance.

I mixed the last page of the epilogue (read by the amazing Stephen Fry) with Leaving Hogwarts, changed the levels and unfortunately to make it fit, cut some bits out. But yes. This is what it sounds like.

I Remember You As You Were

I remember you as you were in the last autumn. You were the grey beret and the still heart. In your eyes the flames of the twilight fought on.And the leaves fell in the water of your soul.Clasping my arms like a climbing plantthe leaves garnered your voice, that was slow and at peace.Bonfire of awe in which my thirst was burning.Sweet blue hyacinth twisted over my soul.I feel your eyes traveling, and the autumn is far off:Grey beret, voice of a bird, heart like a houseTowards which my deep longings migratedAnd my kisses fell, happy as embers.Sky from a ship. Field from the hills:Your memory is made of light, of smoke, of a still pond!Beyond your eyes, farther on, the evenings were blazing.Dry autumn leaves revolved in your soul. Pablo Neruda

I Remember You As You Were
I remember you as you were in the last autumn.
You were the grey beret and the still heart.
In your eyes the flames of the twilight fought on.
And the leaves fell in the water of your soul.

Clasping my arms like a climbing plant
the leaves garnered your voice, that was slow and at peace.
Bonfire of awe in which my thirst was burning.
Sweet blue hyacinth twisted over my soul.

I feel your eyes traveling, and the autumn is far off:
Grey beret, voice of a bird, heart like a house
Towards which my deep longings migrated
And my kisses fell, happy as embers.

Sky from a ship. Field from the hills:
Your memory is made of light, of smoke, of a still pond!
Beyond your eyes, farther on, the evenings were blazing.
Dry autumn leaves revolved in your soul.
